Affiliate Disclosure

SpecCourt is free to read and reader-supported. This page explains, in full, how the commercial links in our guides work — and what they never influence.

The short version

Product links in SpecCourt guides are commercial outbound links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission from the retailer. You pay the same price you would have paid by searching the retailer's site yourself. Nothing on this site is paid for by a brand, and no brand can buy a recommendation, a ranking or a "best" label.

  • Every product card links to a retailer's live listing or search page — never to a cached copy, and never to a price we would have to keep updating by hand.
  • Commercial outbound links are marked in the page source withrel="sponsored nofollow noopener", which tells search engines the link is commercial and opens the retailer in a new tab with no referrer information we control beyond the click itself.
  • Where an approved affiliate programme link with a tracking identifier exists, that identifier is preserved exactly as issued. Where it does not, no tracking identifier is added — a link without tracking earns us nothing, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
  • Internal navigation, section pages, sources and "further reading" links are never monetised.

Where the disclosure appears

Every commercial guide carries a disclosure panel above the first affiliate link, and the panel links to this page. Widgets and homepage units that contain commercial links are labelled as affiliate links in place.

The rules we hold ourselves to

  1. Recommendation first, offers second. A guide's picks and their "best for" labels are written before the offer list is assembled.
  2. No pay-to-play. We do not accept payment for inclusion, ranking, a verdict, a "best" label, or the removal of a competitor. We do not run sponsored posts presented as editorial.
  3. Commission rate is not a criterion. A product is never ranked above a better one because it pays more.
  4. Retailers cannot review before publication. No brand or retailer sees a guide before it goes live or can edit it afterwards.
  5. Prices are never hard-coded. Because prices change constantly, the CTA reads "Check current price" and always resolves to the retailer's live page.
  6. Specifications are sourced. Specs are manufacturer-stated figures and are listed with a link to the source and the date we last checked them.

What we do not do

  • We do not claim to have tested products we have not handled. Guides state the scenario and the published specifications they are based on.
  • We do not publish fake ratings, invented review counts, or fabricated "we tested 40 models" claims.
  • We do not sell email addresses, and we do not run third-party advertising networks on this site.
  • We do not use link-shortening services, so you can always see the destination before you click.

Third parties you meet after you click

Once you follow a product link you are on the retailer's site, subject to their own cookies, privacy policy and pricing. Retailers may set their own cookies to attribute the visit to an affiliate partnership; we have no access to the data they collect there. See the privacy policy and the cookie notice for what happens on this site.
